“Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves – slowly, evenly, without
rushing toward the future. Live the actual moment. Only this moment is life.” Thich Nhat Hanh
What better words to keep in mind while enjoying your Thanksgiving meal? You may spend hours planning, shopping and preparing a wonderful dinner but the real challenge is taking what you learn on the mat with you to the table. Yoga teaches us to be completely in the moment, focusing on every movement and sensation. You can keep this same intention throughout the meal.
Begin by deeply inhaling the amazing aromas coming from your plate. As you take the first bite notice the subtleties of the mingling flavors. Each bite is chewed slowly and completely. When you speak, set the fork down and fully engage in the conversation. Notice when you’ve eaten just enough to feel satisfied.
This simple act of awareness will allow you to appreciate all of the earth elements and people that must come together to create this special meal; the soil and water, the farmer and grocer, all that allows a home to function, your home itself. Can you imagine how long this list can grow? You have a wonderful opportunity on Thanksgiving to take your yoga off the mat and live the teachings.
Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy!
